Kevin Harvick – “Just blew up” (30 minutes into the session). His car looked very strong running the bottom groove in both corners. Ran a lot of laps early in the session. Because of his engine problem he’ll be starting in the rear of the field on Sunday. It’s important to note Harvick said this was his first Hendrick engine failure.
Jeff Gordon – During the Thursday test he said he had a good long run car. Gordon had good lap times over an extended run early this session.
Joey Logano – Has a fast car. At the end he said it was OK. During an interview he said he thinks he can race well.
Aric Almirola – Said his car feels better today. It’s tight, but feels good over a long run.
Denny Hamlin – Ran a very good 10th lap time during his opening run. His car was very fast. He ran the bottom in both corners. His car was able to maintain speed longer than others.
Jimmie Johnson – Ran consistent lap times. “Loose in and to the throttle. Right-rear slipping off. Splitter contact through the center.” At the end Johnson reported his car feels ok at turns 1&2. However, the balance was building free and during the last two laps it was loose in the corners
Dale Earnhardt Jr. – His team was looking for a tenth. “It was running some real good laps there.” Later he said his car was “Too tight, first half of the corner.” 25 minutes into the session he said, “Tighter on entry. Loose in the middle of the corners.” He practiced running the high-line. At the end he said, “I like the car, it’s not too tight and it’s not too loose.”
Ryan Newman – Tick tight. Late in practice he said his car was very drivable.
Danica Patrick – Said her car was snappy.
Kyle Larson – Said his car started out strong but then it stepped out on him.
Justin Allgaier – Told his team he needs help down in the corner.
David Gilliland – Said his car is too tight.
Carl Edwards – “I have to over slow it to get the front to bite and when I do that, then the rear end kind of snaps around a little bit”
Tony Stewart – “It’s a little nervous dead center to exit. There’s a spot in 3 for when the left front hits it, it shoots me out to the right.” “It’s hard for me to tell you what it’s doing because I can’t make it do the same thing two laps in a row. It’s still needs to turn in better”
Clint Bowyer – He was pleased with a run 20 minutes into the session. He said his rear grip was better. Later in the session he practiced running different lines.
Brad Keselowski – His crew chief doesn’t anticipate any issues. Keselowski was pleased with his car and said it was very raceable. His opening run was +20 laps. Towards the end he said, “Really struggling now.”
Cole Whitt – His car gets really loose after two laps and his car has a big speed drop off.
Austin Dillon – “Just a little tighter than it was yesterday all the way through.”
Kasey Kahne – He reported his handling was decent but could be better.
Paul Menard – Said he’s lacking drive off. Also said he’s on the right rear really hard.
Jeb Burton – “I’m on the point where I’m gonna wreck. Right there I was broad sideways in the middle of the corner.”
Sam Hornish Jr. – Reported his car is free in the middle through the exit of the turns. Late in practice he said he was loose on throttle.
David Ragan – Trying to get more grip on exit.
Joe Nemechek – “Way better than it was before. But I’m still tight, both ends.”
